For our school, this involves having one teacher in the role of an ‘In School Lead’. This year, our in-school lead is Sarah Macintosh, who will be focusing on te ao Māori. We also have Hannah who is the across school lead for our cluster. Hannah is working with kaiako across the 12 schools to strengthen leadership skills and to build engagement, equity, enrichment and connection in literacy and mathematics.

We have the following 4 strategic Goals for te ao Māori:

  • Community Engagement
  • Place-Based Learning
  • Teacher Capability
  • Knowing our Tamariki

Sarah will be:

  • Going into classrooms to teach a range of vocabulary, sentence structure, karakia and tikanga. This way all classes receive the same message and teachers receive professional development
  • Liaising with whānau
  • Working with schools in our Kāhui Ako to learn stories from the Peninsula
  • Providing professional development for teachers
  • Creating resources for teachers to use in classrooms
